Video Conference vs Webinar

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

Video Conferencing can be thought of as a video chat session between two or more people. This is done in real time over the internet usually with smaller groups of up to 15 people. This service does not scale too well due to the complex management of all the incoming and outgoing calls at the same time. This service is best used for meetings, workshops, discussion and small team collaborations where a two way conversation is required.

Webinar is a one way broadcast of audio and video to one or thousands of people. The name almost gives it away - a seminar done on the web - webinar! This service is best used for conferences, lectures and presentations where you are broadcasting a message out to the masses. Webinars can be done live in real-time and are referred to as "Live Streams" or pre-recorded and played back called "On-Demand" video. A live stream webinar is often also recorded and made for on-demand playback later.
